The Hofstra University Black Faculty Council (BFC) was organized in June 2020 to address structural and systemic racism and anti-Black bias in our university community and broader society. Our vision is for there to be extensive diversity and realized equity and inclusion in terms of race, color, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religious belief, ability levels and other forms of social differentiation. The mission of the Black Faculty Council is to create a climate which is conducive to the well-being and professional development aspirations of Black faculty, students and staff.
1. Elimination of anti-Black racism and bias in the interactions of faculty, students, staff, and administration, and in the operations of departments, programs, colleges, administrative offices, and university committees.
2. Public engagement and collaboration between faculty, students, and the broader campus and local community.
3. Meaningful representation, recruitment, retention, and belonging of Black people at multiple levels of the institution.
